April - June 06, May and June saw a number of notable events take place within Swimlanka. Meetings with architects for the permanent 25 meter pools in Trincomalee and Galle, along with the new openings of temporary shallow water pools in Gintota, Kirinda and Koggala. The Arabic news network Aljazeera came to film us for four days after seeing our ongoing work within the Muslim community here in Sri Lanka. Also Petronella receives a surprise cheque from our Peruvian Olympic swimmer Juan!
- Meeting with the architect and pool builders for the 25m pool in Trincomalee.
- Kirinda set up - The furthest reaches on the Southern Coast!
- We met with Stephen and Naufer from Sports Sans Frontieres, who are helping us to run our two pools in Pottuvil, Ampara.
- Our friends CFDR (Community Focus Disaster Response) help us get our shallow water pool running in Komari.
- Aljazeera arrive for 4 days of filming, the first day being at the NCC in Colombo where we were training six coaches for Ampara District. We also saw the first day of classes in Gintota.
- Aljazeera film pump training for our coaches at the Waduwa site just south of Colombo. Also we saw the opening and first brave steps from our new recruits at Koggala on the south coast.
- Petronella gets a surprise when Juan, our Peruvian Olympic swimmer hands her a much needed cheque for $2,000!!
- Drawing up of the MOU between ourselves and Isabella from World Concern.
- Coach refresher training for the southern coast coaches at NCC. Twenty-five coaches took part in the training.
- Ravin visits the Ahangama pool in Galle District and takes a class.
