Jan - Feb 07

January 2007 saw graduations in Madampe, Kandegoda and Horaithduwa in Galle District along with the continued search of possible temporary pool homes for pools now not in use. A new location started in Galle district with the opening of Uragaha, at the Vipulasara School. Also our friends in Pottuvil dropped into The SwimLanka HQ to give details of the classes running in the two pools in Ampara.

Febrauary : Kulmunai coaches from Ampara district headed up to Colombo for training at the NCC pool. We also saw the long-awaited foundation stone laying of the permanent pool in Galle. The project is currently awaiting confirmation of contractors and building should commence in the near future. We were contacted by an Australian couple, Brett Davies and Sherylee Williams - Davies, who with a proficient swimming coaching background wanted very much to get involved with our project. Based in Hikkaduwa on the SW coast, they have been tirelessly working on finding permanent locations for unused temporary pools, the first of which will be moved to the Rainbow Center in Komala near Hikkaduwa, an orphanage with enormous potential for teaching kids to swim.
