July saw the graduation of over 200 children from Zahira College in Gintota, along with new pool locations opening in Kuchavelli and Kisimanagar. The month also saw changes in Galle. The plans we have for the 25 meter permanent pool took a leap forward after arranging a meeting between SOS Velsen, a Dutch town twinned with Galle and Adopt Sri Lanka, the two co-funders of the pool project. Trincomalee saw the continued decline in political stability but with the continued help from World Concern we were able to open a second location 30 km North of the town helping the community benefit from our ongoing work. Whilst we were in Trincomalee, we set up a meeting with the Urban Council regarding the permanent pool to be built the moment the situation changes.
August saw meetings with Jetwing in co-ordination with the permanent pool in Galle and further meetings with the architects. Mohuttawatta had it’s graduation ceremony passing a total of 198 students since its opening in May. We made vists to a school for the deaf in Matara and found a permanent un-used pool in a disabled home by name of Sambodhi Home near Galle, which started classes for the excited residents. The home lost 44 children to the tsunami.
